Can liposuction be performed in the summer ?
Today, liposuction is the most widely performed cosmetic surgery procedure in the world. It effectively treats localized fat deposits in various parts of the body. The objective of this intervention is to obtain a slimmer, and more harmonious silhouette : as if redesigned.
If you intend to undergo liposuction this summer, It will be perfectly possible, but certain precautions must be taken.
What is liposuction ?
Liposuction is a plastic surgery recommended when certain localized fat deposits can not disappear despite diet or exercise.
During the procedure, tubes are used to suck out the excess fat which is then evacuated. Various areas can be treated through liposuction : arms, back, double chin, abdomen, buttocks, thighs, knees…
This operation can therefore significantly improve your figure.
However, it is important to note that liposuction is not a solution to overweight or obesity.
How long is the recovery time after this intervention ?
Unlike aesthetic medicine techniques such as cryolipolysis, liposuction is a surgical operation. As a result, the time which is required to recover is proportional to the amount of the removed fat. It takes around 6 months for the post-operative swelling to disappear for good and for the skin to tighten completely.
Wearing a support panty helps reduce the swelling. Moderate pain may be experienced, but this is alleviated by taking standard analgesics prescribed by the surgeon. Ecchymosis resolves after 10 to 20 days.
Daily activities (social and professional) can be resumed 10 days after the operation depending on the extent of the liposuction and your work. For sporting activities, a break of about 3 months is recommended, again depending on the type of activity, it is the surgeon who will indicate you the period.
Can I expose myself to the sun after liposuction ?
You can have liposuction in the summer or just before, but there are a few things you need to be aware of.
For example, the sun and liposuction don’t mix.
In fact, the areas that are operated on should not be exposed to sunlight or UV rays as UV rays can have a negative or even irreversible effect, particularly if the scars are exposed to the sun during tanning sessions.
When can I go swimming after liposuction ?
Swimming should be avoided for at least 1 or 2 months (pool, sea…), it depends on your case, the surgeon will tell you that. The objective is to promote healing and optimize the success of the treatment.
